Open Competition, Points Scale 'D'

Rules:

1. 8 people per team, 4 men and 4 women. One coach only will be allowed.

2. Each contest will be the best of three pulls with ends chosen for the first and, if necessary, third pulls from the spin of a coin.

3. Teams may not be changed between individual pulls or between rounds of the competition.

4. Footwear: Any type of shoe or boot may be worn provided that the sole and heel have no projections (stud, bar, nail etc) that will offer any assistance in pulling. Synthetic grass studded shoes will not be permitted. Footwear will be inspected before each contest. Gloves are not allowed.

5. The "anchor man" in each team must pass the rope under one armpit diagonally across the back and over the opposite shoulder from rear to front. The remaining rope shall pass on a backward and outward direction and the slack shall run free. He shall grip the standing part of the rope with both arms extended forwards. No other turns or loops will be allowed.

8. The rope must remain straight and all the team must remain on their feet throughout the pull.

9. The practice of a team that is losing releasing the rope to make their opponents fall backwards is dangerous and must not occur. A team doing so will be immediately disqualified and will receive no points.

10. The competition will be run on a knockout basis with a contest for third and fourth places.

11. The Chairperson of the Sports Secretaries' Committee will be responsible for drawing the rope from the Stores, having it available for the event and returning it. The chairperson will also start and control the pulls.
